When the latest episode of Apple TV’s psychological thriller Cape Fear premieres this Friday, CalArtians will see a familiar name in the credits. CalArts Creative Writing faculty member Brian Evenson wrote the episode and served as executive story editor on the 10-episode limited series created by Nick Antosca.

Inspired by both The Executioners by John D. MacDonald and the 1991 film directed by Martin Scorsese, Cape Fear stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, Patrick Wilson, Lily Collias, and Joe Anders. The series follows married attorneys Anna Bowden (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) after Max Cady (Bardem), the convicted killer they helped send to prison, is released from prison and seeks revenge.

Evenson’s episode, “Possum,” premieres Friday, July 3. According to Apple TV, the episode follows the Bowdens as they deal with a new neighbor while Natalie begins to question her past during a family trip.

Since its June premiere, Cape Fear has received positive reviews for its suspenseful storytelling and performances. The Guardian called the series “a masterclass in tension” and praised Javier Bardem’s performance as Max Cady.
