On Saturday, July 31, the Mobile Dance Film Festival in New York City presents Swell, a short film by CalArts student and choreographer Taylor Donofrio (Dance MFA 22). The festival is the first of its kind, featuring works shot entirely on mobile devices.

Donofrio collaborated with several CalArtians on the making of the film. Swell is performed by CalArts student Andrew Tiamzon (Dance BFA 23) and features original music by CalArts alums Brian Griffith (Music MFA 21) and Shuwen Zhao (Music MFA 21).

Swell screens at 3 pm EST, as part of the Official Selection Program I, at the 92nd Street Y cultural and community center. Additionally, all programs will be available to screen virtually from July 31 – Aug. 15.

As the artistic director and founder of Donofrio Dance Company, Donofrio takes a research-based approach to her choreography, which has been recognized for its precise and intimate quality. The company has performed throughout the Northeast and New York City, including at Triskelion Arts, FLICfest, CPR, The Outlet Dance Project, Green Space, and WestFest. DDC has also held residencies at Governor’s Island, Irondale Theater, and the Dragon’s Egg.
