CalArts Alum Spencer Lenain (Dance BFA 24) performed on one of the most high-profile stages in live music earlier this month, dancing in both of sombr’s sets at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. sombr (Shane Michael Bose), described by the New York Post as a “rapidly-rising rocker,” blends alternative pop and glam rock and kicks off his first arena tour later this year.
Across both weekends, Lenain was part of a cast of ballet dancers featured in sombr’s debut set on the festival’s Outdoor Stage, which drew a massive crowd stretching to the outer edges of the field. The ensemble appeared during sombr’s performance of his latest single, “Potential,” and the set also featured surprise appearances by rock legends Billy Corgan during weekend one and Billy Idol during weekend two.
Based in Los Angeles, Lenain has built a significant online presence, with his TikTok amassing 1.5 million followers. He has also performed at Vail Dance Fest three times as a Scholar-In-Residence, a prestigious award given to select dancers each year to study and perform at the annual festival in Vail, Colorado. Lenain has been involved in many projects ranging from concert dance performances and ballets to commercial work such as dancing in Conan Grey’s “Never Ending Song” music video.
