‘Unfolding Visions’ at REDCAT Showcases Film and Moving-Image Works by CalArts Faculty

Unfolding Visions, a curated screening at Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater (REDCAT) on Oct. 27, showcases recent film, video, and moving image works from several CalArts School of Film/Video faculty, including Associate Dean Rebecca Baron and Douglas Goodwin (Experimental Animation), Annapurna Kumar (Experimental Animation), Yaloo Lim (Experimental Animation), Wendell McShine (Experimental Animation), Julie Murray (Film and Video), Charlotte Pryce (Film and Video), Abigail Severance (Film Directing) as well as School of Theater faculty Janie Geiser.

Visiting faculty Irina Leimbacher introduces the program, and Film and Video Faculty and Film at REDCAT curator Jheanelle Brown hosts a post-screening discussion.

The program includes films in English and Portuguese (with English subtitles):

  • Rebecca Baron and Douglas Goodwin, Nearest Neighbor (2023): Examines the relationship between technology, humans, and consciousness.
  • Janie Geiser, Sudden Tourniquet (2025): Explores how the boundaries between scientific representation and Cartesian understandings of humanity break down.
  • Annapurna Kumar, Mirror Products Catalog (2023): A micro-speculative history on consumerist image-making.
  • Yaloo Lim, Shininho Docking (2025): Consolidates familial and communal history into a story of an elder pirate whose existence questions sentience.
  • Wendell McShine, XING PED (2025): An observational film about the filmmaker’s new home and his internal world.
  • Julie Murray, ESTUARY (tidal) (ebb(2025): Creates space to understand our ways of seeing.
  • Charlotte Pryce, The Gloaming (2025): Approaches Anthropocenic uncertainty through metaphor and visual poetry.
  • Abigail Severance, You Recall the Night Train (2025): Contends with apocalyptic anxieties with intimacy and care.
