The Hammer Museum’s JazzPOP series concludes its 17th season on a high note with a headlining performance by Dan Rosenboom’s Polarity Quintet on Thursday, August 15, at 8 pm.
Led by CalArts alum Dan Rosenboom (Music MFA 07), the Polarity Quintet features a stellar lineup of musicians who are at the forefront of today’s jazz and creative music scenes. Joining Rosenboom on stage are fellow CalArtians Gavin Templeton (Music MFA 08) on saxophone and Richard Lloyd Giddens Jr. (Music MFA 09) on bass, with keyboardist John Escreet and drummer Damion Reid rounding out the band.
Organized by San Francisco Bay Area bassist Lisa Mezzacappa, the JazzPOP series concert is free and open to all ages.
Rosenboom, an internationally acclaimed trumpeter, is a prolific force in the Los Angeles music community, having released more than 25 albums of original music as a solo artist and bandleader, and more than 100 releases on his label Orenda Records. His work with the Polarity Quintet has received widespread acclaim, with their latest release named one of DownBeat’s “Best of 2023” and praised by JazzTrail as “a jewel of intensely played music and interactive creativity performed with openness and edginess.”
