Composer inti figgis-vizueta shares a performance of new works in Music for Transitions, premiering on Saturday, June 3 at 8:30 pm at REDCAT in downtown Los Angeles.
Joined by cellist/composer Andrew Yee and violist Nadia Sirota, figgis-vizueta shares new arrangements of previously remote works, as well as a new co-composed piece for mixed ensemble. More about the performance from REDCAT:
Called “intense” with a “sense of true dramatic stakes” by The New York Times, figgis-vizueta writes magically real music through the lens of personal identities, braiding a childhood of overlapping immigrant communities and Black-founded Freedom schools—in Chocolate City (Washington, D.C.)—with direct Andean and Irish heritage and a deep connection to the land.
The evening’s program also features works by several of the composer’s contemporaries, including Leilehua Lanzilotti, Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, and Andrew Yee.
Music for Transitions is also available to watch via livestream.
figgis-vizueta is a New York-based composer whose work has been characterized by The Washington Post as “liberated from certainty and wrought from a language we’d do well to learn.” She is the recipient of the National Sawdust Hildegard Award, The ASCAP Foundation Fred Ho Award, and fellowships from Dumbarton Oaks, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, and the American Composers Orchestra. Among her upcoming projects are new works for the Kronos Quartet, Cramer Quartet, The Rhythm Method, Ensemble Reflektor with Podium Esslingen, and Ensemble Connect at Carnegie Hall.
