CalArts Ranks No. 1 in Animation Career Review’s 2026 Rankings

CalArts’ animation programs (Character Animation and Experimental Animation) have earned the top spot in all eligible categories in Animation Career Review’s 15th annual Animation School Rankings, marking the sixth consecutive year at No. 1.

Out of 207 schools considered, CalArts ranked first in all six applicable categories:

Top 50 Nationally (#1, top 1%)
Top 40 Nationally among private schools and colleges (#1, top 1%)
Top 20 on the West Coast (#1)
Top 20 in California (#1)
Top 50 Nationally among schools offering an animation-related BFA (#1)
Top 25 Nationally among schools offering an animation-related MFA (#1)

Since 2012, Animation Career Review has published animation school rankings for prospective students exploring careers in animation, game design, graphic design, digital art, and related fields.

Animation Career Review evaluates data gathered through school surveys, LinkedIn employment data, and the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard. Criteria include academic reputation, admission selectivity, employment data, faculty depth and breadth, value relative to tuition and indebtedness, graduation rate, and retention rate.
