April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), and the Newark/New York-based public radio station WGBO 88.3 kicked off its celebration early on March 31 by featuring tracks from the CalArts Jazz Program on their playlist.

Early on March 31 during the 7 am PT hour, the station played “Mean Ether,” an original composition by current MFA student Jason Hayashi that was recorded on the CalArts Jazz 2024 album. Later, during the 5 pm ET hour, WGBO featured “Siren Song,” a composition by current BFA students Julianne Sillona, Hanna Vicera, and Thomas Blumberg.

Both tracks will be in rotation through Wednesday April 2 and on the WGBO website as part of the station’s JAM celebration.

These two tracks and all of the music and artwork on the CalArts Jazz albums from 1990 through 2024 are available on the jazz archive website. The albums feature original compositions by CalArts music students recorded at Capitol Records (for its first 30 years) and now Evergreen Recording Studios in Burbank.
