Frights and frustrations slink out of a home haunt’s shadows in Room Temperature, a new feature film from author Dennis Cooper and visual artist Zac Farley. The dark comedy, which credits CalArts alum Luka Fisher (Art-IM MFA 18) among the producers, makes its world premiere on Saturday, April 5 at 2220 Arts + Archive as part of the second annual Los Angeles Festival of Movies (LAFM).
Set in an “isolated area of the United States,” Room Temperature follows a teen named Paul—portrayed by Chris Olsen (Art BFA 24)—who witnesses a fun family tradition turned malignant as it consumes the father [John Williams (Art MFA 99)]. More about the film from LAFM:
In the lead-up to Halloween, a family transforms their home and yard into a haunted house and invites a local high schooler (Chris Olsen) to walk through it, but it appears the father’s (John Williams) increasingly obsessive fantasies are taking a toll on the family. Willfully eccentric, full of left turns but always controlled and precise, Room Temperature marks an exciting creative breakthrough for one of America’s living masters of regional transgression and surrealism.
The film will screen twice during LAFM, with Cooper and Farley in conversation with Ash Hoyle on the Saturday premiere. Please note that tickets for both screenings are sold out online; standby tickets will be available on-site.
