CalArts alum Paul Turbiak (Theater MFA 08) stars in the US premiere of Pascal & Julien, running through Sunday, Oct. 27, at 24th Street Theater in Los Angeles. Written by Australian playwright Daniel Keene and directed by Debbie Devine, the heartwarming play is about fathers, sons, and the unlikely beginnings of a friendship.
Turbiak portrays Pascal, a crossword puzzle enthusiast who becomes the focus of 12-year-old Julien’s (Darby Winn) search for a new father figure. Broadway World praised Turbiak’s portrayal as “layered, endearing, honest, and hilarious,” emphasizing the strong chemistry between the two leads.
A Los Angeles-based teaching artist, actor, and writer, with extensive credits on stage, screen, commercials, and voiceover, Turbiak recently left a longtime staff position with the School of Theater.
The production also features lighting design by CalArts alum Dan Weingarten (Theater MFA 04), who specializes in lighting for dance, theater, and opera while also teaching in the Department of Theatre at Cal State Northridge.
24th Street Theatre, known for its dedication to family-friendly and community-focused productions, continues its mission of engaging and educating audiences of all ages through thought-provoking theater. This production is suitable for adults and children aged 5 and up, embodying the theater’s commitment to delivering enriching and accessible performances.
